Excellent juxtaposition and thumbs up for including a terrific discussion of a children’s book in honor of the holiday.

When I was student teaching, I taught this book to a sixth grade class as part of the curriculum. We read a couple of chapters out of it in class each day. When I was finishing it on my own, before the actual class, I kept crying every time I read the ending and I told my cooperating teacher that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to read the book out loud in front of the kids without losing it. She was her usual compassionate self (didn’t get along with her very well). But I did manage to get through, though with a very shaky voice and trembling hand. This book is an excellent choice for young readers for so many reasons.
